Getting to Glasgow

M8 MotorwayGlasgow is served by Glasgow Airport (Glasgow Abbotsinch) which is the busiest in Scotland. With over forty different airlines travelling to over eight destinations getting to Glasgow is getting easier. The airport is open twenty four hours a day every day of the year and handles nearly nine million passengers each year. There are two rail stations in Glasgow, Glasgow Central and Queen Street Station. Glasgow Central Station the oldest and was opened in 1879 and is where the trains arrive from England. Queen Street station handles passengers from within Scotland including Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness. Glasgow is well connected from all over the UK by coach with National Express who operate an extensive UK network. By car it is also easy to get to Glasgow from the south of the border or via ferry if you are travelling from Northern Ireland.

Some of the larger car hire companies have rental offices in the City centre and Glasgow and Prestwick Airports. One Way Rentals are possible with some of the rental companies.

Glasgow SkylineGlasgow Airport is located 8 miles (13km) to the west of the city. Glasgow Airport is the busiest airport in Scotland and one of the busiest in the UK. The Airport opened in 1966 and has just got bigger since then. If you are using Satellite navigation in your car the airports post code is PA23 2RS. The drive to the city centre is about 20 minutes however at peak times in the morning and late afternoon traffic is very busy so allow a lot of extra time. The nearest train station is in Paisley's Gilmour Street railway station which is about a mile away and can be reached by taxi or bus from the airport. Rail tickets can be purchased in the airport. There is also a regular bus service (905) to and from Glasgow City Centre and it leaves from North Hanover Street and both the train stations.

Glasgow Train StationsThere are two main stations in Glasgow, Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street. Trains arriving from London and the South usually arrive into Glasgow Central and trains from Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness etc arrive into Central Station.
